Markets in promotions

The number one reseller of used Dodge cars is a guy who uses infomercials. But with a twist. He gets his sales staff to dress up as goofy characters (like a sumo wrestler) and they ad-lib everything from there. Pretty creative.

It reminds me of minor league baseball owners who try all sorts of stuff to get people to attend games. One fellow in particular is a bloke named Mike Veeck. Fortune has a great write-up of some of the antics he has pulled; a notable one involved a lottery-style drawing in which one lucky fan would receive a vasectomy. It was cancelled after a local bishop, who was a season ticket holder, complained.  And despite these set backs, when everything is said and done, the franchises he owns are among the most profitable in the league.
