Discovering the undiscovered

Filed under: Culture, Science, Technology — Tim @ 10:38 pm

A couple weeks ago I mentioned the various creatures that have been discovered this past year. Now comes word from across the pond, of a new kind of fly along with a new fungus gnat. Neither does anything specifically phenomenal — no super powers.

And that’s not all.

In addition to finding a new kind of rat (that was once thought extinct) more of our friendly extremophiles have been found in the Arctic wilderness, living near some sweet smelling sulfur. More on extremophiles here.

Also, be sure to read up on the Genographic Project (sponsored in part by National Geographic) and the Linnean enterprise; both seek to essentially analyze and record the genome of every species on the planet (in addition to humans).
