Will the homebrew bio-tech industry be regulated into extinction?

Last month I mentioned a write-up from Wired covering the reactionary regulation of at-home chemical labs.

A couple weeks ago I added that there is a growing industry of small firms, operating out of the proverbial garage and basement, which has taken genetic research into a slew of useful manifestations with very little capital investment.

Yesterday Wired explored the growth of this hobbyist biotech industry, noting the similarities between it and the early personal computer industry led by individuals like Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Bill Gates.

My sole hope is that the women entrepreneurs involved will skip the bell-bottom stage and skip straight to mini-skirts and go-go boots.
