A recent study suggests that most news articles that appear online only have a “half-life of 36 hours.”
On the surface this seems somewhat difficult to swallow — because so few people, relatively speaking, use the Internet period, let alone the Web on a daily basis. However, the last paragraph clarifies the actual thesis: an empirical observation of the Long-Tail at work.
Of additional note is the lead author behind the study, Albert-Laszlo Barabasi who also wrote “Linked” — a book which, among other things, discusses Power Laws (the Long Tail is a statistically observed power law). See my pseudo-review here.
