Sick of playing life in single player mode?

Good news for nerds and nerdlings everywhere, Lego finally released their new robot kit.

Choice quote:

The kit, which retails for $250, is aimed at robo-philes great and small, from children to university scientists making prototypes. It also stands to grab share from, or contribute to, the global personal robot industry, which will reach $7.9 billion by 2010, according to the Japan Robot Association.

Dammit, give me 1983.

Robots were anywhere and everywhere.

They had cool flashing lights on every imaginable surface area.

They made whoosh-whoosh noises while traversing the must-have non-carpeted surfaces.

And they came with bulky, battery-draining remote controls that never worked when it was near another device that emitted RF’s.

So what is the State of the Personal Robot Industry now?

We’ve got that little vacuuming robot, and whatever lame toy robot Best Buy is cavorting in front of the new movie releases.

Whatever happened to Teddy Ruxpin?

Surely some Eastern Block teenager with too much time on his hand could hack the stuffed animal today and give him the ability to play the Nintendo DS. I mean, just look at ROB. He could beat an entire game with a simple gyroscope.

Who needs the Konami Code or Game Genie when you can have personal automaton?
