Gawking at gwap

If you’re familiar with a Captcha, then you know of Luis von Ahn. He created it, along with the popular ESP Game that is used to help label images (it is used by Google).

I’ve mentioned him in the past and recently found out that he has finally put together a website called Gwap. It includes a series of social games that require users to guess what the other person is thinking, listening to or viewing. And by playing you are in fact helping label songs and images which in turn allows computer databases to become better at categorizing digital matter.

Out of all five games I thought that the music section was the funnest/easiest whereas Verbosity was the most difficult (it’s kind of like Taboo, which is a great game). Certainly beats playing solitaire.

Or growing them in a petri dish. As a consumer you’ll be able to chose which method you want in the unfortunate chance that you have organelle failure. Amazing.
